Dog Emotions and Cognitive Studies
Love dogs? Here’s an interesting online course by Dr. Hare a leading scientist in dog cognitive studies. Its 10 to 15 hours and provides a synopsis on Dr. Hare’s research and has a lab component called Dognition (dog cognition) which teaches step by step basic games to record dog responses in 9 distinctive cognitive areas. The course is designed to accumulate the largest ever research data via educating dog lovers to submit test results.
Anyone can enrol without perquisites for free or pay $65 for a completion certificate. It consists of short video lectures, followed by 2 to 3 multiple choice teaching questions and a final exam with 29 multiple choice questions. No one fails; the quizzes and the final can be repeated until you pass. Dr. Hare’s book The Genius of Dogs is not course mandatory, but Happy Tails does have a number of copies we can loan to our clients and friends.
While myself and my staff have certificates of completion “this certificate, or any other online school certificate DO NOT CERTIFY someone as a behaviourist or trainer”. Anyone claiming they are a certified trainers or behaviourists by studying Dog Emotion and Cognition at Duke University or other international online schools are misleading you or very misinformed themselves.
Happy Tails will gladly assist anyone interested with the cognitive games and testing. Better yet, we encourage you to take the online course for free. It assists dog cognitive research and may further strengthen your relationship with our best friends.
